About us
Resurrected Bites is a Harrogate, Killinghall and Knaresborough-based community organisation aiming to reduce food waste and food poverty.
We work with local businesses and suppliers to divert good quality food from landfill. Instead, we convert it into meals in our cafes, and provide it to families through our community groceries scheme.
Established in 2018, Resurrected Bites began life as a ‘pay-as-you-feel’ community café. By March 2020, we were running three weekly cafés across the district. As well as reducing food waste, our cafes provided opportunities for people to support our work and socialise at the same time.
When the Covid-19 pandemic began in March 2020, our cafes closed and instead we provided home deliveries of food supplies for vulnerable families and individuals in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Nidderdale, Boroughbridge, Ouseburn, Ripon and Bramhope. Since then, we have assisted 15,750 people with between three and seven days’ worth of food. We diverted three tonnes of food waste from landfill every week – equivalent to the weight of 300 large Christmas turkeys.
We run “Give As You Can” cafes and shops at Killinghall Methodist Church on a Thursday, & at Gracious Street Methodist Church in Knaresborough on a Friday. These are open to everyone so please pop in for a delicious meal and make a donation of what you feel the food is worth or what you can afford to help us cover our running costs.
We also run a community groceries scheme with bases in Harrogate and Knaresborough which is solely for people in food poverty.
In March 2024, we received charity status for the community groceries and environmental aspects of our work so please gift aid if you can.
